2 weeks in, waterproof, comfortable

Purchased to replace 8yr old merrell leather boots.Decided to try cheaper, but with decent reviews, as now only used for dog walking.I am size 8, these are a touch big, but good fit with additional walking socks.Initially hard leather, not much ankle padding, so a felt uncomfortable just below bony ankle bit. After a couple of walks leather eased and could be be pulled snug around ankle comfortably.2 weeks in, 10 times 2 mile dog walks, wet shin height grass, thick mud, 2 inch standing water.Boots waterproof, more rigid than previous, comfortable and good grip. Some discoloration on ties...but hey they are walking boots.5 stars at the moment

Great Boots

These photographs are of my boots after 2 and a half years of wear. I have worn them everyday at least twice a day for several miles of dog walking - in woods, on cliffs, over rocks, on the beach and in water. I have not particularly looked after them, other than give them a coat of water proof dubbin a couple of times each winter and I've replaced the laces twice. I've also got through 2 pairs of insoles as the boots (size 9) were a little on the large size for me. The boots continue to be serviceable, they are still waterproof and comfortable. I will certainly replace them with the same when they are eventually retired.

Excellent boots

I have had these boots for fifteen years plus, excellent value for money and I think I paid a similar amount back then. As you can see I was in need of a new pair, these boots are durable and offer support around the ankles especially when traversing very rough terrain where you often encounter wet marsh areas, very watertight.

Great Walking Boots

I bought these boots around the beginning of October 2022 and have now had to replace them just over a year later. In that time I have worn them nearly every day whilst walking the dogs. I will have covered about 1400 miles in that time. They have never let me down, always kept my feet dry and been really comfortable. The tread, as can be seen in the picture, has now worn right down. However, when you consider I have been almost exclusively walking on forest trails, I think I have had my money's worth from these boots. I would highly recommend them.

Comfortable, waterproof, good value but with niggles

I purchased these in November so have had them for 6 months now.The boots arrive in a nice box with a bag too keep the boots in and a spare pair of laces. They really look quality boots.Originally I got them for a trip to Iceland where I wore them pretty much continuously for 5 days. They really were comfortable, warm and waterproof. The leather on them is sturdy and the soles seem to be pretty indestructible.Since Iceland I’ve worn them most days, in all weathers, for dog walking. The soles of the boots show almost no wear at all.The leather, as you can see from the photos is in good condition. I have never polished or treated them with anything and they remain waterproof.I’ve never had blisters or sore feet from wearing them and really like them. The only issues I’ve had with them are:1. the laces rub on the eyelets and are fraying badly so will need the second pair of laces they sent pretty soon2. Yesterday second eyelet on the right boot broke. The rivet that holds it on just gives out. I had the first one repaired by a cobbler for £1.50 which was ok, now I’ll have to get the second one done. It’s a pain that they are not very reliable but at least they are cheaply fixed.3. The inside heel support / padding is beginning to wear throughOverall I think these are much better quality than I was expecting for the price, and certainly better than the non-leather boots I’ve had before. I would definitely buy them again despite the small issues.

Surprisingly excellent for the money

Update 1 year on. May 21 2022.The boots have been through regular wear. Hiking to garden work to light construction. Never leaked. They've paid for themselves at this point. Well worth the money. Extremely slight separation of sole from upper but cosmetic only. Only visible when I pressed it like in photo. Still watertight. I'll buy another pair.Update 3 September 2022I bought another pair. Nothing wrong with the originals but I wanted a fresh pair in brown. For the price these boots are amazing value and extremely comfortable!!May 2021I've only had the boots for two days so I'll update in a month. Thought so far, excellent quality construction and comfortable. I used to purchase boots that cost two or three times as much as these, but I think I'd rather just buy new cheaper boots more regularly instead. I've spent money on more expensive boots that let water in after 6 or 9 months use, hence the decision to try these ones at a cheaper cost. Plus the reviews were excellent so I put a lot of faith in them. I bought gold label dubbin at the same time as that boots and gave them a coating to ensure full leather waterproofing and conditioning. Looking forward to the next heavy rains. Update to follow. Some photos attached.Updated with rain photo. Water beading lovely after two coats of dubbin during the dry weather. It took the dubbin about a day to fully dry in but it does the job perfectly. The one thing I'd say about these boots is that they are very comfortable and light. You'd forget you are wearing them. Will be interesting to see how they wear over time. I'll update in a few months.

Size was perfect and they did look like high quality product . The worst part was that it comes damaged but refund was issued and I get money back in few days . Generally nice product but because I was in rush I returned it .

Broken lace clasp!

Nice boots and comfortable, but on 3rd outing the lace clasp at the top broke off when i tightened the lace. Can still use them still by just using the lower clasp. Still good boots so far.

Update: Still good after 18 months of use

I have been wearing these Northwest Trail boots for over 18 months so I am adding this review as an update to my original review. These boots have surpassed my expectations and have stood up well to daily use in all weathers. To date they have not let in water, they continue to be comfortable and other than showing a little age, in the staining of the leather and some sole wear, are still good enough to keep my feet clean, dry and comfortable. The key to long use for all boots is to keep applying a good wax polish. Personally I use Gold Label Dubbin (also available on Amazon). Applying this at least monthly, with extra cleaning after walking in particularly muddy conditions, will keep the leather supple and waterproof. When I bought them in May 2019 they were just 39.99 which was an absolute bargain. They have now risen to 54.95 which is a substantial increase, though in my opinion still represent good value for money. Keep an eye out for bargains though and if you see them on offer you would be wise to grab a pair.

Comfortable and waterproof but you may need insoles

I bought these for walking/ hiking in and around the new forest. I waited a couple of weeks before writing a review because I wanted to wear them out a few times and try them out. Firstly- they arrived very well presented - a nice box and wrapping with tags, a keyring and a spare set of laces - 5 stars for presentation. I ordered my usual size - which is size 11 - good job i did, there is plenty of room. Trying them out in the house I noticed the sole seemed curved and encourages you to move forward. I immediately gave them a good couple of coats of clear shoe polish, paying particular attention to the seems. I noticed the glue around the sole and the leather is a bit messy - if i had paid much more I’d have maybe treated this as a quality issue. The first cross-country walk I used them for was over a mixed terrain of grass, gravel and mud and was just under 10 miles. I came back with a big blister on the outside of one of my big toes and slight pain of the soles of my feet caused by a slight slipping motion while walking. Next walk out was in heavy rain under very muddy and wet conditions and was 6 miles. I made sure to put a plaster on the toe that blistered last time. They kept my feet dry throughout but did seem to absorb water around the seems, darkening the leather considerably. I still had the slight pain in the soles of my feet - i will be adding some wool insoles to solve this. I did have a bit of water get in from the top on occasion so i will get myself some short walking gators to combat this in future. Overall they are comfortable to walk in and did keep my feet dry. Being leather they do need to be broken / worn in so don’t go out in them at first without some plasters. A solid 4 stars and once i add insoles I’m sure will be perfect.

Comfortable, supportive and with grippy soles.

Having given these a thorough off-road test in the Lake District this summer I feel like I've got to know them enough to leave a review. Time will tell how durable they are but for now, here is my summary. They are comfortable, for reference I always wear a pair of boot socks over a regular pair of socks with walking boots and the fit is perfect for my size-nines. They are supportive around the ankles and I haven't experienced any pressure points which I had with my previous pair of boots around the sides where the upper lacing points are. The soles offer decent grip over various surfaces from mud to rocks and shallow water, I haven't waded through anything too deep yet but my feet stayed dry the whole time despite some sustained rainfall at times and some marshy ground in places. The laces are showing signs of wear already but the boots came with a spare pair of laces provided so I can always replace them when they are in danger of breaking. The box also contained a keyring if that's of any importance. The surface finish was already marked in a couple of places when I first got them out of the box, see the photos for details and also the detail of the join between the upper and the sole which is where my previous pair of walking boots failed initially. I'll have to see how they age but initial impressions are favourable.

Laces are very weak compared to other boots I have purchased. Couldn't pull them up tight enough in fear of breakage. Exchanged them for laces from old boots.

Old for New

Some months ago I decided I needed a new pair of outdoor boots. I spent weeks looking round the usual high street shoe stores and ware houses. Everything was outrageously expensive. Mostly they didn't fit, apparently my feet which were size 8 were now size 11 or 12, or where so rigid round the ankle I couldn't walk. I remembered that I had bought some boots a few years back that had been ideal. At the back of the cupboard there they were. An old pair of Northwest Territory walking boots. Just what I needed though I little tight in the toes. The event of boot socks!. I decided to get on the internet and see what was available at Northwest Territory. I decided on a pair of INUVIK Men's Leather Waterproof Walking Boots - very similar to my old ones. The sizing guided on their website enable me to determine the correct size, at a very reasonable discounted price. Three days later they arrived and are great. The online site saved me a lot of hassle and gave me a great deal. I would highly recommend them.

Ordered walking boots for my husband

I have dealt with Northwest Territory in the past ordering a pair of walking boots for myself so I was more than happy to order a pair for my husband. The boots are of good quality and mine have lasted years and still going strong. My dealings with the company have been second to none with them keeping me informed with delivery etc I rate this company highly.

Boots and Laces

I have bought these boots about six times and I am always pleased how the fix and look, even after months of daily use. I think the provide my damaged ankle with firm support that other boots can’t get anywhere near.
They have one tiny drawback on every pair that I’ve bought, in that the lace covering quickly wears showing the white tough drawstring. This is due to the laces eyelets not being smoothed properly, and the critical ones are the top pair of those full loops on the boot.

Over 1000 miles and still going strong

I bought these October 2025 and average over 50 miles a week on my country side walks. the wet weather left some of the bridleways in a churned up state where the horses go everyday so they were wet and rough terrain sometimes the water covered the boots, I walked across fields with wet grass totally covering my boots some footpaths have old rubble and can be rough going. The boots are comfortable right from the start and I can say I have never had wet socks they give good ankle support and at my age it's welcome seeing I have been walking for over 70 years. Quality control and assurance was my working career so a product has to come up to all the statements a manufacture list Durability, and fit for purpose. You will not be disappointed with these boots

New Walking Boots

Bought from dedicated website because I still have and use a pair of Northwest shoes that have lasted a long time. These, for more boot - they go up ankles - are lighter than my shoes referred to above. Not worn them yet. Not quite sussed it but they might not need (Oxblood) polish as care instructions say the uppers are coated and suggest a 'wipe over'.

Good boots

I have bought these boots for years from various sources but bought direct for the first time a couple of years ago.
I have always found them comfotable. I wear them every day of the year to walk my dogs in all weathers.
I smother them in leather wax which keeps the leather in fair condition.
My one niggle is that I have had the metal eyes pop off but epoxy glue usually does the trick.
With the conditions and miles my boots are subjected to they usually last me about a year before they spring a leak. I hate wet feet so that's when I replace them and the old ones get used only in dry weather.
I like them. I have seen some reviews that moan about ridiculous things.
As long as Northwest are around I will no doubt continue to buy their boots as long as the quality does not deteriorate.
